Insight Investment is the asset manager of the HBOS group, managing over £112 billion for institutional and retail clients as at 30 June 2008.

There is a strong and growing consensus that investors have a responsibility to their clients and wider society to encourage high standards of corporate governance and corporate responsibility in the companies in which they invest. As one of the largest asset managers in the UK, we take this responsibility extremely seriously.

Since 2002, when our market-leading Responsible Investment team was created, we have been delivering on our commitments to managing all of our assets according to responsible investment principles. We deliver on those commitments in four main ways:

• Through our activism on corporate governance, by encouraging companies to adhere to the Combined Code on Corporate Governance, by promoting best practice on remuneration, strategy and succession planning, and by exercising our clients’ voting rights. More information.
• Through the integration of analysis of companies’ performance on corporate governance and corporate responsibility issues into our investment analysis. More information.
• Through our engagement with companies and other stakeholders on social, ethical and environmental issues such as climate change, consumer health, and other corporate responsibility issues. More information.
