European Business Awards for the Environment
Eurosif is a proud promoter of these awards which recognise and promote companies that integrate sustainable development into their activities. The bi-annual awards were established by the European Commission Environment Directorate-General in 1987 to identify and reward European companies that set an example by combining innovation, economic viability and environmental concern. The winners will be selected from the 11 shortlisted companies and announced in Brussels on 3 June 2008.
European network set to boost women in power
Female decision-makers from around Europe met recently for the launch of a new EU-level network of women in power. The group aims to promote women in decision-making positions in politics and the economy across Europe. The inaugural meeting was opened by Equal Opportunities Commissioner Vladimír Špidla and by Zita Gurmai, Vice-Chairwoman of the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. By facilitating partnerships and synergies between existing networks at European level, the group will provide a clear EU added value. The members' experience and reputation will also help give greater visibility to the issue of gender balance.
