Job description

SIF seeks a Director of Communications and Marketing who is interested in socially responsible investing and corporate social responsibility issues. The ideal candidate will bring creative energy to SIF; is a talented oral and written communicator; is a team player and an independent thinker; and is enthused to be part of a small organization in a growth phase. This is a new position and has many opportunities for leadership, creativity and professional growth. The Director of Communications and Marketing is a full-time position whose primary responsibility is to coordinate and manage the organization’s external communications and marketing efforts as well as supervise research projects. In collaboration with other SIF staff and consultants, this includes being the primary liaison to the media (in coordination with PR consultants); development and management of web site material (working in coordination with a web consultant); editing and management of all stages of research projects; management of all marketing to members and the external world; creation of external materials, ensuring the quality of SIF publications and communications and the integration and execution of key messages and themes in all communications channels.

The Director of Communications and Marketing reports to the CEO; the position is based in Washington, D.C.

Requirements / qualifications

Media

  • Develop annual media plan
  • Work with SIF PR consultants on development and achievement of key priorities and on ongoing press releases and other PR activities
  • Be primary internal contact with the media; provide reporters with background information, arrange interviews
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key reporters
  • Work with staff to track media and create media reports
  • Write and oversee writing and submission of editorials; other media pieces

Communications

  • Develop annual communications plan
  • Write, edit, and coordinate publication of all organizational literature
  • Write, edit, and manage all web site content, coordinate with web consultant
  • Create and then write, edit, and coordinate quarterly organizational newsletter

Marketing

  • Create annual marketing plan
  • Create opportunities for earned income and/or increased public profile through co-sponsorship of conferences/other events, ads and other PR opportunities
  • Further develop web sponsorship opportunities; key liaison to members interested in sponsoring the website
  • Research and identify various avenues for public communication about SIF’s work

Research

  • Manage all research projects
  • Supervise research related consultants
  • Edit research; manage publication process of research
Salary / benefits Salary range is commensurate with experience and non-profit pay scales; expected to be in the $70,000 range. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plan matching contribution, and a generous leave policy.

Our members integrate economic, environmental, social, and governance factors into their investment decisions, and SIF provides programs and resources to advance this work.

SIF's membership includes more than 500 social investment practitioners and institutions, including financial professionals, analysts, portfolio managers, banks, mutual funds, researchers, foundations, community development organizations, and public educators.

SIF has a staff of seven, works with several key consultants, has an active and engaged board of directors, and a budget of nearly $1,000,000. We are in a stage of expansion and growth.
