Antonio Tajani elected European Parliament’s President

18 January 2017

MEP Antonio Tajani from the European People's Party (EPP) secured the majority of votes yesterday  (17th January 2017) to become the new President of the European Parliament.

President Tajani has always believed in how important the social economy is, as a guiding light for the European economy. Sustainable Investment initiatives have been promoted by the European Institutions with a view to supporting and increasing investment in social enterprises.

When he was nominated to the position of European commissioner for industry and entrepreneurship, Tajani declared that "the green economy would be at the heart of the new industrial policy".

He has also stressed "sustainable industry should not be perceived as the domain of certain environmental industries. It has, on the contrary, become the business of all businesses."

In a press release from the Commission, he added that "the ambitious initiatives presented today will contribute to making the financial system better in channelling resources towards long-term investments, needed to secure Europe’s position on a sustainable growth path."
